Have you ever wondered why so many believers…

I mean even "real" believers…

(you know, people that truly love God)…

seem to constantly struggle financially?

It truly breaks my heart to see so many people I know…

Who are good God-fearing people—many of which work hard—seemingly stuck in cycles of lack and financial struggle.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the topic of money and wealth, it’s pretty hard to find good teaching in the church today.

It seems to me that there are two very different “gospels” being preached today from the pulpits of most Christian churches.​

On one extreme we have the preaching of the "prosperity gospel."

If you listen to what any of the prosperity preachers say, it’s very easy to end up thinking that your spiritual development is directly tied to your financial status.

In the prosperity gospel, your level of wealth and prosperity is an indication of your spiritual connection to God.

So the person with the big house, the nicest car, and the private jet is more spiritual and closer to God than someone who cannot afford those things.

And while I have nothing against having nice things, I certainly do not believe that material wealth should be the only or even the main criteria for determining the level of someone's spirituality.

And on the other extreme in probably the great majority of churches today the "poverty gospel" is proudly being preached from pulpits every Sunday.

The “poverty gospel” suggests that one's ability to stay content and live by faith in poverty is a measure of one's spirituality.

The poverty gospel preachers love to warn their congregations on the dangers and trappings of wealth and success…that money doesn’t matter and isn’t important…

And then ironically turn right around and ask the congregation for money to pay the bills of the church.

As you read this I hope you are clearly able to see the error and hypocrisy of both the prosperity and the poverty gospels.

The fact is both of them are in grave error and unfortunately a perversion of the true gospel.

You see the word gospel…means good news.
And there is only one true gospel.

Do you know what it is?

Yes, No, Not Quite Sure…

Well the good news about the “good news” is that there is a simple and easy way to know what the one and only true gospel is.

And that is to see for yourself what gospel did Jesus himself actually preach when he walked the earth some 2000 years ago.

To find this out all we need to do is simply open our Bibles…

Turn to Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John and look at the words of Jesus (you know the ones written in red letters) and in them you will see that Jesus out of his own mouth told all of us plainly what the one true gospel (good news) was and still is today…

Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."

Luke 4:43 “I must preach the Kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.” And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee. "

On many occasions in scripture Jesus is recorded saying “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” That this is why He came...to bring the gospel…the good news…the good news that Kingdom of God is once again available.

What Adam lost in the Garden...now Jesus, the second Adam is here to restore back to mankind.

The Kingdom of God is the gospel that Jesus preached therefore it is the one true Gospel.

So the obvious question I hope you’re asking yourself is:

“Well Pedro, if the kingdom is the one and only true gospel…what does the Kingdom of God have to say when it comes to the issue of money?”

I thought you’d never ask.

Let’s start with the poverty gospel, which doesn’t even make sense. Remember, Gospel means good news.

When in your life would you ever tell someone “Congratulations, I've got some good news for you…you’re broke.”

Seriously though, there is no such thing as the gospel of poverty in the Kingdom of God.

God, our Father, and Jesus, Our Lord and King, love us too much to want to see his kids suffering in financial lack.

After-all, Jesus said he came that we may have life and life more abundantly...

Personally, I think both the prosperity and the poverty "gospel" miss the mark...

While I do not believe a Bentley would make me more spiritual...I sure as heck don't believe that not being able to afford food for my family does either...

What would it mean to have a healthy and biblically sound understanding of how to approach and manage wealth as a follower of Jesus? I refer to it as a 'Kingdom Revelation'.

In both the Old Covenant and the New Covenant there seem to be plenty of God's promises to us, His children, about prospering...

In John 10:10, Jesus says he came that we would have life, and life more abundantly...

In Deuteronomy 8:18 we learn that it is actually God himself who gives us the power, the very ability, to get and create wealth." This is a gift from God...

"And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day."
